RIIHAN212E – Conduct non-slewing crane operations

Who this course is for
For employees in the resources and infrastructure industries who need to demonstrate competency in non-slewing crane operations, including multiple crane lifts and travelling with a load. Commonly used by employers to meet site induction, verification of competency, or principal contractor requirements on mining, quarrying and civil projects. This is a competency unit, not a licence course. CCT delivers this course to workplaces only — bookings are made by the employer for their own staff.

Entry requirements

• Students must be 18 years of age or older
• Students must be working in the industry, with the course booked through their employer — CCT does not accept enrolments from individual members of the public
• Students must have the language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills required to complete the course. For this course that includes reading and interpreting site procedures, safe work method statements and operator manuals, performing the calculations needed to keep a lift within rated capacity, following written and verbal instructions in English, and completing pre-start checks and written records

What you’ll learn

• Prepare for crane operations — access documentation, assess the work area, and complete pre-start checks
• Operate a non-slewing crane to complete lifting tasks in line with established site requirements
• Travel the crane safely, including with a suspended load
• Perform multiple crane lifts and coordinate with other operators and crew
• Complete housekeeping, shutdown and reporting activities

Licensing
This unit is not a licence course and does not lead to a high risk work licence. It is a competency unit used to demonstrate and verify skills against the resources and infrastructure industry standard — typically for site inductions, verification of competency, or a principal contractor’s requirements.

• Completing this unit does not remove the requirement to hold a high risk work licence where one applies
